samenvatting: Due to the discrimination and abuse they experience, many LGBTI people, including adolescents, flee their home countries and seek protection abroad. The multiple vulnerabilities that LGBTI refugees (applicable to asylum-seekers and, depending on the context, stateless and other persons and groups of concern to UNHCR) may face in all stages of the displacement cycle is an increasing protection concern. It is important for UNHCR to ensure that the rights of LGBTI persons of concern to the Office are met without discrimination. This places an onus on offices to develop a thorough understanding of the circumstances of LGBTI persons under their care. This note provides staff with guidance on a range of issues when working to meet these responsibilities.

samenvatting: Curt Scharlach wurde am 14. september 1892 in eine jüdische Familie geboren in Berlin. Er unterzog sich in Berlin einer chirurgischen Geschlechtsangleichung, nahm den Vornamen Charlotte an und "französisierte' seinen Nachnamen. Nach Angaben Ragnar Ahlsteds war sich der junge Curt schon im Alter von sieben Jahren darüber im Klaren, ein Mädchen zu sein. Ab seinem zwanzigsten Lebensjahr habe er sich auch mit offizieller Erlaubnis in Frauenkleider bewegt. Die Geschlechtsangleichung wurde in 1930 geführt. Charlotte Charlaque lernte ihre spätere Freundin und Lebenspartnerin Toni Ebel (1881-1961) vor Abschluss von deren geslchlechtangleichung kennen. Toni Ebel lebte noch um 1930 unter ihrem Geburtsnamen Arno Lebel. Ab 1932 verbanden sie eine Liebesbeziehung, die erst 1942 vond den Nationalsozialisten zerstört wurde, indem die beiden Frauen gezwungen wurden, sich zu trennen.

samenvatting: Stigma and extreme violence against trans and gender-diverse people remain a global reality. In many countries, political contexts and legal and social persecution often limit access to data, while a lack of research and critical analysis add to our erasure and marginalisation. Globally, there are wide disparities in access to healthcare for trans people. In some parts of Europe and Latin America, trans-specific care is covered by national health insurance, while in parts of Asia and Africa, it is unavailable and, sometimes, illegal. Furthermore, pathologisation creates abusive practices that violate trans people?s basic human rights: our right to dignity, bodily integrity, autonomy, and non-discrimination. Such treatment of our bodies and identities on a structural level enables and fuels anti-trans stigma and violence. The report draws on activism and research of the TvT team regarding the health of trans and gender-diverse people in the Global South and East, viewing health as more than just the absence of illness. It builds on community-based research carried out in recent years in local and regional contexts as well as on an international level, including the TvT Trans Murder Monitoring (TMM). [3] We speak not for the trans communities but from within: our expertise and knowledge come from our lived realities as trans and gender-diverse persons, from a direct engagement with our communities and our shared experiences. Lastly, the report proposes recommendations to decision makers to make a significant impact on the lives of trans people by enacting laws and policies that address our social, educational, economic, health, and safety needs.

samenvatting: In this report, the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, documents a four-year period in which Egyptian police have escalated a targeted crackdown on people whose sexualities or sexual practices, actual or perceived, differ from those considered normative in Egyptian society. Especially if they were homosexual or men who practice sex with men, or those suspected as such, or transgender persons. The report tries to clarify that the late campaign, related to the arrestation of more than 75 people against the backdrop of the 'waving the rainbow flag' incident. This report follows the journey of some of those arrested, from entrapment to imprisonment, in order to analyse the patterns of this security campaign against those considered to have non-normative sexualities. The report also analyses the roles of different actors in the criminal justice system, including the police, prosecution and Courts of Appeal, as well as the legal loopholes employed by this campaign and the way in which it violates a number of established legal and constitutional principles.

samenvatting: This report analyses the history, extent and nature of laws around the world which, through their existence and/or application, criminalise transgender and gender diverse people. The purpose of this report is to identify these laws, highlight particular examples of their enforcement, and examine how their mere existence renders trans and gender diverse people criminals by virtue of their gender identity and/or gender expression. The report also explores how these laws, through their existence and/or application, violate international human rights standards and norms. This report builds upon existing research into the experiences of trans people and the law. This report gives particular consideration to three illustrative areas of criminalisation affecting transgender and gender diverse people: the criminalisation of gender expression, for example 'personation' and so-called 'cross-dressing' laws (Section 2.1); public order, vagrancy, loitering and misdemeanour offences where transgender and gender diverse people are targeted (Section 2.2); and, laws criminalising consensual same-sex activity where transgender and gender diverse people are targeted (Section 2.3). The report will also address the alarmingly widespread and systematic abuses committed with impunity against transgender and gender diverse people by state actors, in the absence of any purported legal basis or justification (Section 3).

samenvatting: Abstract: This research deals with the topic of transgender asylum-seekers and specifically with their refugee status determination process. It aims at finding out if and in which way a queer critical framework could help explain the shortcomings and misunderstandings which often arise during said process. After analysing the main controversial legal and practical issues occurring during transgender asylum-seekers refugee status determination processes, it argues that a good insight into the reason why these issues arise can be found in the queer concept of hierarchies of power, and in the ways they underlie and shape the whole asylum system. Building on that, the research finally argues that these narratives cannot be subverted by simply modernising refugee law but that it is rather the whole conceptual foundations of the asylum system that need to change and that transgender asylum-seekers' experiences could help in showing the way forward.

samenvatting: Vom 1. Januar 1872 bis 11. Juni 1996 waren die §§ 175 / 175 a StGB die am stärksten sichtbaren und wirksamen staatlichen Repressionsinstrumente gegenüber gleichgeschlechtlichem Leben, mit Auswirkungen auf trans- und intersexuelle Menschen. 1969 erstmals liberalisiert und 1994 abgeschafft, wurden erst am 24. Juli 2002 alle Urteile nach §§ 175 / 175 a aufgehoben und eine Rehabilitation der Opfer dadurch möglich. Das Centrum Schwule Geschichte Köln zeigt erstmals eine Ausstellung zur Geschichte antihomosexueller Gesetzgebung in Deutschland mit Fokus auf das Gebiet des heutigen Nordrhein-Westfalens. Die Ausstellung setzt damit erste Marken für eine umfassende Aufarbeitung der LSBT*IQ-Geschichte des größten und bevölkerungsreichsten Bundeslandes, die immer noch aussteht.
